I’ll be honest, I had no idea what the Edinburgh Military Tattoo was when we bought tickets to go. A quick Google search told me that it was a show put on in front of Edinburgh Castle.
The Tattoo began in 1950, as a way to bring the Army’s contributions to the Edinburgh International Festival. Each year, military performers from all over the world come together and perform, which each performance connected by a theme. This year, performers from the US, Canada, Norway, Trinidad and Tobago, Australia, and the UK performed music, dancing, and immersive imagery to tell Stories, the theme for the year.
The seats are set up parallel to each other with the castle in the middle, guaranteeing a good view from every seat. The nosebleeds were the only ones left when we bought our tickets, but they are also the only ones covered. If you don’t know, it rains all the time in Scotland. We also ended up next to a girl whose boyfriend was performing, so it was fun to have someone to cheer for.
The performances were in the center arena, some with military uniforms, some with gorgeous costumes. They also projected onto the Edinburgh Castle, which was by far my favorite part of the show. The show concluded with fireworks over the castle.

At £75 ($94) each, it wasn’t cheap but it was so worth it. It was an amazing experience.
