Restaurant Review: La Mia Mamma, London, England

If you’ve been around a while, you know that we love Italian food, especially pizza. During our six-week stay in Notting Hill, we were fortunate to be just a few blocks from La Mia Mamma. It was on the top of our list for London after seeing it on Stanley Tucci’s show.

The concept it so simple and brilliant that I can’t believe more restaurants don’t do it. They bring “mammas” from Italy to showcase their region’s cuisine. Every three months they feature a new region and rotate new mammas. This allows Londoners to learn the different cuisines of Italy and gives the mammas an opportunity to spend time in London without a Visa while showing off their skills.

We ate at the Notting Hill location five times while we were in London (they also have two locations in Chelsea). They have indoor, outdoor (weather dependent), and counter seats, and we sat in each area. The counter was my favorite, since you can watch mamma cooking.

Despite the region being Sicily when we were there, I had cacio e pepe every time, and The Husband had pizza. I fully intended on trying other dishes but the cacio e pepe was the best I’ve had since leaving Rome (that includes having it in other places in Italy).

They give you a tomato bruscetta right after you order. It was on typical toasted bread every time except when we sat at the counter. That time, it also came with a small one on a softer, denser bread, and it was incredible. The pizza was fluffy and delicious, and the cacio e pepe was exactly how it should be.

True to the Italian habits we developed in Italy, we had dessert every time. We tried the gelato, tiramisu, panne cotta con frutta, and these delightful little doughnuts. Everything was exceptional!

La Mia Mamma should be on everyone’s list when visiting London! It’s so authentic that you feel like you’re in Italy, and the price point is great.
