Bar Harbor Puffin Tour

When the Husband and I decided to spend our 10th wedding anniversary doing a New England road trip, I knew I had to try and see puffins in Bar Harbor.

My grandma, who passed away last year, was one of my closest friends and our love of birds was one of the many things we shared. We went to Newfoundland a few years ago to see icebergs and we had hoped we would see puffins while we were there. We didn’t, so I was extra excited at the possibility of seeing them on this trip.

We booked a trip with Acadian Nature Cruises because they were the only one that had started their tours (it was the beginning of the season) and I’m so glad we did. The tour left from the hotel next to ours so it was super convenient. The staff was super knowledgeable and knew all about the birds we saw.

And most importantly, we saw so many puffins!

We also saw black guillemots, common terns, great black-backed gulls, razorbills, common eiders, and the incredible arctic tern! They were all new lifers for me (birds I hadn’t seen before) and after the puffin, I was most excited to see the arctic tern. These little birds migrate from pole to pole, around 25,000 miles every year!

We also saw harbor seals, lighthouses, and just in general beautiful scenery. This tour was more than I could have asked for and I’m so glad we took it.
