While The Husband has always wanted to stay in a castle, I’ve always wanted to stay at a pub. Kenmare was the perfect stopping point on our four day western Ireland journey, and O’Donnabhain’s was the perfect quintessential Irish bed and breakfast/pub.
Check in was super easy. We just stopped at the bar, paid the bill, and got our key. They have multiple room types, including triples and family rooms, making it a great option for all types of travelers. We booked the double room. It was a good size room with a large, comfortable bed. The bathroom was a good size and fully equipped. The hair dryer was the old kind, attached to the wall, and called the Shaver 2000. I obviously chose not to wash my hair there.
Despite being above a bar, it was very quiet. We didn’t hear any noise from downstairs or outside, even with the windows open.
The pub was very traditional Irish, with dark wood and live music. They also have a beer garden outback, which is a great spot to sit and have a pint or a meal if the weather cooperates.
Breakfast was included and offered a typical continental breakfast menu, cereals, pastries, and fruit, but you could also order from the cooked-to-order menu. The Husband ordered the traditional Irish breakfast, and I had poached eggs and toast. They were both really good and the perfect way to start our long day of driving the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula.
Checkout was super easy. We just packed up our stuff and dropped our key off at the end of the hall.
We loved our stay and I wish we would have stayed another night. Kenmare is so cute and at only €123/night, it was a great deal.
