How to Spend an Afternoon in Sorrento, Italy

We were lucky on our last visit to Naples that we had already done most of the main tourist things. On our first trip we went to Capri, Pompeii, and tried all of the ‘must-do’ pizza places. So for this trip, we had time to relax in our palace Airbnb and take day trips to nearby areas.

So one afternoon we decided to take the local train to Sorrento. It was the end of shoulder season, meaning most things were still open but it wasn’t crowded at all.

After getting off the train, we walked the quaint streets of Sorrento to the Villa Communale park on the water, with an amazing view of Naples and the sea. We had a spritz while enjoying the breeze off the water before checking out the Rafael Celentano gallery, which had beautiful photos of Sorrento.

Next we stopped at the Grand Hotel La Favorita. The common areas were so gorgeous and I can only imagine how beautiful the rooms are. When we go back to Sorrento someday, we are absolutely staying here.

Our next stop was Labadia Limoncello. The Husband loves limoncello and we figured it had to be good if it opened in 1884. And it was. We were the only people there so the guy working, the brother of the owner, told us all about their history of limoncello. We bought a bottle but we should have bought a bunch.

We stopped for an aperitivo at Bar del Carmine before getting on the train back to Naples. We had spritzes (Aperol for me, limoncello for The Husband) and an assortment of fried snacks. They were delicious and so filling that I didn’t need dinner (although I had it anyway).

We browsed the boutiques and I bought a few shirts before leaving the fairy tale Italian town of Sorrento for the bustling chaos of Naples.
