As if we didn’t do enough awesome things on this trip already, I decided to add a private day trip to Napa Valley. As a self-proclaimed gastronome, I knew it was going to be my kind of place. Now, it was for sure not enough time for me to enjoy wine country, but the Husband thought it was just long enough. And honestly, I’ll just make him go back some day.
Our driver picked us up in the morning and started the nearly two hour drive to our first stop, Domaine Chandon. We really wanted to go here because we went to their French sister Moet et Chandon on our honeymoon in Epernay, and we use their sparkling wine to make mimosas. A lot. So it’s one of our American favorites.
Our driver for the day.
Lots of sparkling wine tastings and some cocktails.
The Husband and I enjoying some Chandon.
All I wanted to do was get a baguette and some fromage and have a picnic. Then I remembered I was in America.
We left Chandon and headed to Robert Mondavi next. We didn’t have a lot of time because we had lunch reservations a Mustard’s Grill.
It was so beautiful there. I wanted to running around singing “The hills are alive.”
We took a tour before getting to the good stuff, the tasting.
Our very knowledgeable tour guide.
Wine tasting time!
The Husband doesn’t really like wine. He’s such a good sport.
Our next and final stop in Napa was Mustard’s Grill. It was really hard to decide where to eat. There are so many fabulous places, Michelin star restaurants to food windows, that sounds really amazing. The Husband is
kind of picky and I didn’t want to force him to go to a super expensive place that he wasn’t going to enjoy. Mustard’s Grill had fantastic reviews, and something the Husband would like.
They weren’t kidding. Everything was delicious.
And of course they have a huge wine selection.
When in Napa…
When we were done eating our time with the car service was almost up and we still had to drive back to San Fran. The ride back was long and traffic was terrible, but it was worth. Our little taste of Napa was just what I needed to convince the Husband to go back sometime.
When we returned to San Fran, we had the driver drop us off at Pier 39, because no trip to San Francisco is complete without visiting the sea lions.
The next day we headed to the airport to catch our next Virgin America first class flight, this time to Las Vegas.
The Husband, me, and grandma at the airport, preparing for Vegas!
