The British Library, London, England

It will come as no surprise to anyone who’s been around for a while that I love libraries. Yet I somehow visited London four times before I finally went to the British Library.

I usually love libraries for their beautiful or unique displays. The giant books outside the Aix-en-Provance library, Book of Kells and the Long Room at Trinity College, and the Infinity Book Tower in Prague are just a few of my favorites. The British Library is both beautiful and really interesting.

There is a large book display in the center of library. Spanning several stories, it is a gorgeous display of old books and I would love to go inside and just smell the musty pages and the binding glue. But I don’t work there so I had to enjoy it from afar.

But the gem inside the library is the museum. They have dozens of old books and other forms of the written word, including original Shakespeare and Beatles song sheets, on display for everyone to enjoy for free! It was amazing to see and I wish I could have spent all day there (The Husband is only so patient with my book obsession).

The British Library is just steps away from the King’s Cross St Pancras underground station, making it easy to visit. If you love books, this needs to be on the top of your London list!
