I am the tourist, and this is my guide to Pittsburgh. I don’t live in Pittsburgh, so it will never be a local’s guide, but many of the things on my tourist lists are recommendations from locals. If I’m missing anything, please drop it in the comments and I’ll add it to the guide.
Food and Drinks
- DiAnoia’s Eatery– Known for their gnocchi bread bowl, but I had the cacio e pepe, since it’s my favorite food. It was delicious!
- The Yard- An American gastropub whose claim to fame is that they have the best grilled cheese in Pittsburgh
- Primanti Bros– Their deli sandwiches come with fries in the sandwich
- Smoke– BBQ tacos
- Pierogies Plus– A Polish Pittsburgh institution
- Novo Terminal– Asian food hall with incredible Asian options
- Southern Tier Brewing– If you’re looking for a good beer and a bite to eat, this is the place
- Badamo’s Pizza– Great place to grab a slice
- Square Cafe– Great spot for brunch, and I saw Billy Porter here!
- Proper Brick Oven and Tap Room– Fresh, locally sourced ingredients on their pizzas and a great craft beer list
- Mercurio’s– Gelato and Neapolitan style pizza
- Driven– Detroit-style pizza
- Dancing Gnome Brewery
- Cinderlands Warehouse Brewery
- Acacia– Prohibition-themed cocktails
Things to Do
- Andy Warhol Museum– The largest museum dedicated to one artist, this huge collection of one of Pittsburgh’s most famous residents is a must-do
- Mattress Factory– This (VERY) contemporary art gallery has multiple floor of exhibits, none of which we understood. But that’s the beauty of art
- Randyland– A backyard masterpiece of colorful art that you have to see to believe
- Carnegie Museum of Art
- Carnegie Museum of Natural History
- Carnegie Science Center– Don’t miss the SportsWorks building
- Museum of Illusions– A “chain” museum but this one is new and looks really cool
- Cathedral of Learning– 42 story centerpiece at the University of Pittsburgh
- Point State Park– Park downtown where the three rivers in Pittsburgh (Ohio, Allegheny, and Monongahela) meet
- Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens
- National Aviary
- Mr. Rogers Memorial
- 3 Rivers Heritage Trail
- Market Square– Downtown square with restaurants and lots of places to sit and watch the people of Pittsburgh
- Duquesne Incline to Mt Washington Overlook- a funicular with a great view, or so I’m told. If you’ve read my recent posts, you know I’m terrified of funiculars
- Bicycle Heaven– Museum dedicated to bicycles
- City of Asylum– bookstore and bar that supports writers seeking asylum in the US
- Pirate’s Game
- Steeler’s Game– If you’re a football fan, you need to at least walk around Acrisure (formally Heinz) field and see the plaques where American football began
Hotels
- Hilton Joinery Hotel– We stayed here and it was nice, but the location wasn’t the best tourist location
- Marriott Renaissance Hotel– This historic hotel looked gorgeous and is in a great location
- Hyatt Place Pittsburgh– We don’t stay at Hyatts often, but this one is in a great spot
