Hotel Review: Baker’s Cay Resort, Key Largo

The Husband loves to celebrate his birthday. He considers it a national holiday and refuses to work, and would prefer if no one else worked either.

He also loves to take a trip for his birthday, but choosing where to go is always difficult, thanks to his mid-August birthday. Europe is full of people, south of FL is likely to have a hurricane, and his allergies are terrible this time of year in the northeast.

This year, we spent so long trying to decide where to go that we ran out of time and found ourselves at home, the day before his birthday. With no hurricanes in the forecast, we randomly decided to head toward the FL keys. It’d been years since we were there.

We decided to stay in Key Largo first, because it’s the closest and I hate FL traffic. We booked the Hilton Baker’s Cay Resort. Thanks to my Hilton diamond status and a passing mention of The Husband’s birthday, we were upgraded to a king room with a water view.

The room was so comfy and cozy. The bed and pillows were just right and the shower had the best water pressure. Most importantly, the AC worked wonderfully!

The grounds of the hotel were just as lovely as the room. The architecture was so beautiful and inviting, and the greenery and beach areas were so calming, you had no choice but to relax.

The room also had a few very thoughtful amenities. The bathroom has a little container of hand scrub. I love a good scrub. It wasn’t too oily or overly scented. It was the perfect little indulgence. The room also came with aluminum bottle of water. This was key, as they could be refilled and used all day at the beach or pool. Such an easy, obvious thing that all resorts should have.

There are two beach areas, two pool areas, and an activities area. Your resort fee includes paddle boarding, kayaking, bike rentals, and other activities. It is definitely family- friendly and couple-friendly.

The restaurants were also delicious. We arrived on a Tuesday, just in time for taco Tuesday and trivia. Tacos were half off and the perfect meal to go with their fresh BOGO margaritas. We had brunch at the main restaurant, Calusa, and it far exceed our expectations. I had a breakfast sandwich with breakfast potatoes, and they were some of the best potatoes I’ve had. The Husband had french toast with a berry compote and I would eat the compote on literally anything.

They also had a good sense of humor. I loved the signs around the resort.

We loved our stay at Baker’s Cay Resort. We were already talking about coming back, while we were still there. It is a little pricey but worth it. Every detail was great and the customer service was impeccable.
