This Tampa newcomer snuck into International Plaza and stole a piece of my heart with a piece of their whiskey cake. Whiskey Cake, a farm-to-fork restaurant located in Texas, Oklahoma, and now Tampa, has surprised and impressed me with their incredible food and cocktail menus.

Whiskey=sunshine
They obviously love whiskey here. They have tons of whiskey and some of the most incredible whiskey cocktails that I’ve ever had. Now, I’m not a whiskey connoisseur at all, and in fact, this is the first time I’ve ever ordered a whiskey cocktail anywhere. The Black Manhattan has coffee-bean infused Averna Amaro and it’s one of the most interesting drinks I’ve ever had.
But there are so many other delicious cocktails. My favorite alternates between the Guava Gimlet, the Aviation, and the Tequila Rose.

Guava Gimlet- Fresh guava, pineapple, with vodka, lime, and simple syrup

Aviation- New Amsterdam Gin, Crème de Violette, Luxardo Maraschino, lemon

Tequila Rose- Monte Alban Tequila, St. Germain, lime, simple syrup, rose water
They also have a ton of other delicious drinks. Don’t worry, I’ve gone many times with multiple people.

Such as the Pimm’s cup

And the Left Hook Lucy
Now that I’ve convinced you that I go there strictly to drink, let me gush about the food. I’ve never had a bad meal there. Everything is so delicious. I was so impressed after my first visit for book club that I brought my boss and coworkers back later that week to impress them with my taste in food and libations. And everyone LOVED it.

Duck wings

Roasted Brussel sprouts with bacon

Fried green tomatoes

OMG 2.0 burger

Chicken and cheese melt with a side of adult mac and cheese

Goat cheese fondue (Pro tip: put it on the fried green tomatoes!)
And last, but not least, it’s namesake, whiskey cake.

Toffee torte with bourbon anglaise, spiced pecans, and the worlds biggest bowl of house made vanilla whipped cream
I rarely order dessert (I’d rather use the calories on a cocktail or French fries) but this whiskey cake is mouthwateringly delicious.
Everything at Whiskey Cake is locally sourced. So local, some of the ingredients come from inside the restaurant! Each employee plants a plant and if it flourishes, they use it in their dishes and drinks! You can tell that every item in every dish and drink is carefully curated and the highest of quality.
