Every time we’ve gone to London we said we would go to Greenwich to see the Meridian Line, and yet we never went. Something always took precedence and it got pushed to the maybe next time list.
One of the best things about spending two months in London was crossing things off that were lower on the list. So on a balmy fall day, we took the Tube to the River Thames and hopped on an Uber Boat to Greenwich.
There are other ways to get to Greenwich but we really wanted to take an Uber Boat. It was like getting a river tour and public transportation at the same time. We went under the Tower Bridge and saw some of the beautiful buildings on the river. There was a guide telling you general information, which was an added bonus.
The inside of the boat was surprisingly nice. There was a bar/snack area and lots of nice seats. We got a seat outside at the back of the boat, so we could see all sides of the river. It was definitely the best spot for taking photos.

We disembarked the Uber Boat at Greenwich and started the walk to the Royal Observatory and the Meridian Line. There was a lot to see there, more than I expected. Cutty Sark, the National Maritime Museum, Queen’s House, and the Old Royal Naval College are all located off the river in Greenwich. But we skipped all that and headed straight to the Meridian Line.

We walked up the steep path to the observatory and got there just as they were locking the doors. They close at 5 pm but stopped letting people in at 4:15, which I didn’t realize. It was disappointing but you could at least see the Meridian Line (longitude 0) from the gates outside. Plus the view was beautiful.

Luckily, I saw someone walk down a partially hidden walkway and found part of the Meridian Line that wasn’t behind a locked gate!

Satisfied that I saw the Meridian Line, we headed down the hill to a pub known for it’s great pizza (surprise surprise), WanderCrust Pizza at Pelton Arms. They have a pizza kitchen out back and you can watch them make the delicious pizza. It was fantastic and worth the trip to Greenwich alone.

Fat and happy, we walked back toward the river to take the Tube back to Notting Hill. We were treated to a beautiful sunset that made Greenwich feel almost magical. Before getting on the Tube, we walked a short distance down a tunnel that goes under the River Thames. It was pretty cool to be under the river, but also a bit claustrophobic.

If seeing the Meridian Line is on your London list, head over early and make a day of Greenwich. There was a lot more to see than I expected and I definitely could have spent a lot longer there.
