To include Idaho in our trip, we decided to drive from Salt Lake City to Idaho Falls, Idaho, spend a night, then continue on to Jackson, WY.
Our first stop was the Idaho Potato Museum in Blackfoot, ID. Yes, it’s literally a museum where you learn about the history of the potato and Idaho’s potato industry. And there’s the Potato Station Cafe, where you can order all kinds of potatoes!
After learning all about potatoes, we had to order French fries.
Although we laughed about going to a potato museum, it was actually well-done and fairly interesting. Plus, who doesn’t want fresh cut Idaho potato fries?
We continued on to Idaho Falls, our stop for the night. After checking into our hotel, we walked along the Snake River, enjoying the sights and steps after spending a few hours in the car.
We came across Idaho Brewing Company along our walk. We ordered pints and sat outside, just in time to hear some live music. The beer and vibes were 10/10.
Our last stop of the night was Soiled Dove, a speakeasy cocktail bar with a great wine list and small bites. The inside was dark and moody, and I loved it. I especially loved learning the history of Soiled Dove Island, a small island in the Snake River that used to hold a red light district and jail, but no longer exists. The name is a nod to the women in prostitution, who used to be called soiled doves.
After Soiled Dove, we headed back to the hotel to rest up for our drive to Jackson and the Grand Tetons.
We were pleasantly surprised by Idaho Falls. It was a lovely, vibrant, small city and I understand why people enjoy living there.
