Restaurant Review: Big Ray’s Fish Camp

One of the reasons that I love living in Florida (besides the sunshine and cheap taxes) is the abundance of fresh seafood! My favorite is grouper, especially grouper sandwiches, and I’m so mad at myself for not finding the amazingness that is Big Ray’s Fish Camp sooner!

I finally headed there with my mother on one of her trips down from Buffalo. We started with the grouper cheeks caesar salad. The grouper cheeks (considered a delicacy) were blackened to perfection and the tomatoes were so good! (FYI it’s surprisingly hard to find a good tomato in Florida.)

So good and fresh!

Next, we shared a fried grouper sandwich with the amazing garlic parmesan fries. It was some of the best food I’ve ever had. The fish was breaded and fried just right and oh, those fries! I could eat this meal every single day.

They also serve a great selection of craft beers, and they have menu items other than seafood. The chicken sandwich looked so good!

And even though we were stuffed full, we managed to find some room for a sack of doughnuts. They were soft, sweet, delicious cronuts with sugar on top, and they were amazing.

There’s a small amount of seating inside but a good amount outside, and most of it is covered to protect you from the intense Tampa sun.

Do yourself a favor and head to Big Ray’s Fish Camp in Ballast Point for some of the best fish of your life!
