Hotel Review: Hotel Nazionale, Portofino, Italy

We left Rome bright and early and headed on the train to Santa Margherita Ligure. From there, we took a taxi to Portofino. A taxi is the most expensive option by far but we were in such a hurry to get to Portofino that we didn’t care. Our driver was super nice and pointed out all the points of interest on the way. And he took an awesome picture of me and the Husband.

Look at that view! That’s at the train station!

You can only drive so far in to Portofino so we got out of the taxi and headed down the puddingstone path towards our hotel. The Hotel Nazionale was easy to find. Check in was quick and the staff helped carry out bags up the stairs. No, there is not an elevator.

We splurged on a room with a view of the a harbor and it was hands down worth it. We bought some beer and wine and spent a good amount of time sitting in the window and enjoying the scenery.

The amazing view! And the window that we sat in most of our time in Portofino.

The room was really spacious. The bathroom was large and right inside the door to the room. Up a few stairs was the main area, with the bed, loft, table, minibar, and, of course, the view.

Our room.

We slept on the bottom bed (we’re both afraid of heights) and although it was not luxurious, it wasn’t bad either. The only real negative about the hotel was the room key. It was large and quite heavy. Luckily, they held it at the desk while we were out so we didn’t have to carry it around.

The front of the hotel was beautiful and looked just like I expected it would.

Isn’t it just marvelous?

We had a great stay here and I hope I go back someday.
