Hotel Review: The Cincinnatian Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton

I gotta be honest, this hotel, specifically the shower, was the highlight of Cincinnati. We stayed at the The Cincinnatian, because it’s in a beautiful historic building right downtown, and I usually prefer Hiltons.

The woman working the front desk was so friendly when we checked in. She shared with us some of the history of the building, which was built in 1882, and upgraded us to the room with the incredible shower.

The lobby and staircase maintained the style of the original hotel onsite, The Palace. When the hotel was renovated in 1987, they changed a lot of the style of the building, but luckily retained this gorgeous staircase. It’s the only part of the interior that is still original to the building.

The rest of the lobby wasn’t so fortunate. They added this glass-domed atrium in 1987 and it definitely doesn’t fit with the rest of the hotel.

The room was really spacious, with a comfortable king sized bed, a desk, and a sitting area. The curtains were super dark and there was a ceiling fan, something I believe all hotels should have, so we would have slept great if there wasn’t construction outside our window early every morning.

Now, the part you’ve been waiting for. The bathroom. The toilet was in a water closet, which I love. There was a sink area and a separate getting-ready area, which I also love. I hate when a hotel bathroom is too small for our toiletry bags.

But the best part was the shower. It was HUGE! It had a full bench seat, multiple shower heads, and so much room! I have a sauna at home, and I really missed it on this trip. But I could crank the shower heads with hot water and just sit on the bench and relax. I basically had a steam room at my disposal, which made me miss my sauna a little less.

The bathroom also had a deep, jetted soaking tub. Look how small that large tub looks compared to the shower. I’m telling you, it was ridiculous! And I loved it.

There’s a small market and a gastropub on the ground floor, which is where I used my $30 credit. The bar manager was a bit wild and insisted on teaching us how to open champagne bottles with a sword (which I will never be trying).

The only downside is that the room wasn’t the cleanest. It wasn’t dirty, per se, but it could have been cleaner. Kind of dusty, some hair on the floor, things like that. But it was smooth sailing after I cleaned the room.

At $375.64 for two nights, I thought it was a great deal. The location was central (although nearby there were a lot of undomiciled people and people clearly in need of proper mental health treatment) and overall it was a nice stay. If I had to go back to Cincinnati, I would stay here again.
