It seems a little wrong to celebrate the immigration to America at a time when many Americans are fighting the immigration of refugees to our country. Fortunately, many people take this day to let everyone know who and what they are most thankful for instead.
As a nurse, I often see people wait too long to tell someone just how thankful they are to have them in their life and I never want to miss the opportunity to tell someone how happy I am to have them in my life.
Learning this life lesson is one of the reasons that I’m thankful that I’m a nurse. Another reason is all the amazing friends I’ve made during my decade of saving lives. Spending 12 hours a day with someone turns them in to your second family, and that makes working the holidays a little easier.

Although I’m not with my family today, I’m still very thankful for them. I learn something new from them everyday. We’re all very different, which means we are all constantly learning from each other. My youngest brother teaches me about cooking and kickboxing, my most recent attempts at something new. My middle brother (tries to) teaches me about electronics. Their wives, most importantly, teach me how to be a sister. My nephew teaches me just how much love you can really have for someone. My father inspires me to work hard and I desperately rely on my stepmom for all things garden-related. My stepfather teaches me all things handy around the house. And my mother and grandmother teach me how to live life.

I’m thankful for everything my Husband does. He makes my life fun, exciting, and so full of love.

And I’m thankful for my friends. I learn from their triumphs and failures and they’ve all made me a better person.
More than a decade later and these ladies and I are still the best of friends.
And I’m thankful for my health. I see so many people die too young or suffering. I’ve never been in a hospital except to work and I hope I can keep it that way for a long, long time.
