Not many things remind me of my childhood as much as going to Swiston’s, on the Erie Canal. My father used to take us there on his boat to get beef on weck (pronounced wick) and chili. Luckily my whole family likes those two foods, since it is all that have on theĀ menu.
Swiston’s Beef and Keg.
The “kitchen.” The literally only serve beef on weck and chili.
Now, there is a lot of debate in Buffalo about who really has the best beef on weck. In case you’ve never had the enormous pleasure of having a beef on weck in Buffalo, it is roast beef slow cooked to perfection on fresh kimmelweck roll. It is nearly a requirement to put horseradish and ketchup on it, and you can tell a true Buffalonian by the amount of horseradish they put on it. I like mine with enough to make my eyes water and my nose burn. That’s the good stuff.
Swiston’s is hands down the best beef on weck in Buffalo, in my opinion. It’s delicious, juicy, and they have a gorgeous view of the Erie Canal. What more could you want?
Beef on weck.
Sit outside and enjoy the view.
You can also sit inside, in either the bar or the dining room.
Indoor seating.
But I recommend stopping at the bar, ordering a Labatt and beef on weck, and heading outside to eat.
Makes me so happy, and I don’t even really eat meat…
The next time you’re in Buffalo, head to Swiston’s Beef and Keg for Buffalo’s best beef on weck!
