In case you haven’t noticed a theme, we really like to visit breweries. Our last trip to California took us to Lagunitas Brewing Company and Ballast Point Brewing. So when we decided to bring grandma from Buffalo to Florida by way of Connecticut, we knew we had to schedule a trip to the Dogfish Head Brewery in Delaware. Their IPAs, the 60 Minute IPA, 90 Minute IPA, and 120 Minute IPA are some of the Husband’s favorite beers and I really wanted to see the tree house they have, so it was a win-win. And grandma is always down for some fun so she was in!
You get four free samples when you visit Dogfish Head. Which, if you ask the Husband, isn’t nearly enough considering how many good beers they have on their rotating 27 beer tap! Luckily, you can get pints and growlers!
Now, if the great beers weren’t enough, you have to see this tree house! The Steampunk Tree House was built in 2007 for Burning Man and was purchased for $1 by Dogfish Head in 2010. However, they did have to pay for shipping and rebuilding. In June of 2010, the Steampunk Tree House was completed and became the space where staff can get together to get creative. Staff meetings would be so much better if they were conducted in tree houses!
If that wasn’t cool enough, we actually got to go up inside the Steampunk Tree House! We were chatting with the bartender and asked about the tree house. It was the end of the night and he offered to take us up there! Our fear of heights went out the door when we realized how cool it was going to be.
Our visit to Dogfish Head brewery was short, but it was so awesome. They also have restaurants and an inn, and I hope we get back to visit all of it someday!
